Hi guys! I just finished reading a news article about the dairy industry having thousands of jobs but no one to fill them so I thought I’d try my luck here!
I’m urgently looking to find a new job as I resigned yesterday from my position as a Shepherd General after 3 months. Full disclosure, I did not get on with my boss, this was the biggest contributing factor to me doing so but also because the job didn’t turn out to be what it was made out to be when I turned down other offers in order to take it.
Ideally I want to end up somewhere small/medium where maybe an owner/manager can take me under their wing a bit and show me the ropes especially when it comes to general areas of farming such as fencing from scratch, electric fencing and water systems. Tractor work etc. I have close to two years worth of farming experience across most areas of farming. Breaking that down I have worked on a goat farm for over a year before taking a summer job on a sheep and beef farm to my current role which has seen me Shepherding full-time for the past 3 months.
Open to something fixed term with the possibility of going permanent if I prove myself. But also, I enjoy dog work so long term I’d probably still want to be a Shepherd. Greater Waikato preferred with accomodation. But will consider South Island jobs as my mum is still based down there and is in the high risk category health wise. Must be allowed dogs as I have 5, 3 working Huntaways aged 5-9, a young heading dog in training and a pet and other than 1 I’m likely to retire I’m not keen on breaking up my team.
