Description

The Nelson Environment Centre is a social enterprise that helps the Nelson Tasman community live more sustainably and reduce its impact on the environment. We’re proud to have been serving our community since 1976.

Our aim is to inspire, inform and assist people to meet today’s environmental challenges. We help people to recycle, reduce waste and reduce energy use. We empower them to create healthy soils and gardens, and to live well.

With 25 team members and 30 volunteers across two locations, we provide a range of services to assist people to take positive action. These include the Recycle Reuse Centre based in Tahunanui, E-Waste Recycling and Consulting for businesses and organisations on how to reduce waste. We provide information and resources for the public and run community workshops on a variety of environmental topics

The Nelson Environment Centre established and funded the Kai Rescue service for the Nelson Tasman region in April 2017. Since then the pilot program has exceed all expectations. Kai Rescue collects surplus food from growers, supermarkets and other retailers; food that can’t be sold for some reason, but is still good enough to eat.

We distribute the food to more than 40 charities, to give to disadvantaged people they work with. The charities include kindergartens, kohanga reo and school breakfast clubs, and social service providers such as Women’s Refuge and the Salvation Army. We have saved more than 167 tonnes of food from being wasted and have distributed enough food to produce over 2500 meals each week!

We are seeking a highly organised, detail-driven Funding Coordinator to join the team. You will be responsible for delivering funding and grant applications, seeking new opportunities and assisting in the delivery of key funding events for Kai Rescue.

Key Skills and Attributes
– Passionate about sustainability and the environment.
– Experience in the funding and grant application processes and delivering submissions.
– Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
– A high level of computer literacy.

Applicants for this position should have NZ residency or a valid NZ work visa.
