Christchurch Music Academy is a leader in preschool and school age music education, specializing in piano and group music lessons. We provide a unique approach to music tuition which is based around “listen, sing, play, read, FUN”!

Due to roll growth, we are on the lookout for a new part- time group music teacher to join us to educate our preschoolers (aged 2-4 years) and /or our school aged students (ages 5 -12 years ) in small groups, via our specialized piano-based curriculum.

As well as small group teaching, additional hours are on offer to those wishing to teach piano or singing in a one-on-one setting.

This position will be based primarily at our main school located at Barrington Shopping Centre, however there are also hours available at our satellite location based out of Redwood school.

Hours of work are part time, with teaching hours available on:

Weekday afternoons from 3.45pm,


Saturdays from 9.30am


Preschool music teaching hours available on weekday mornings from 10am


Days of work can be flexible.

We are looking for someone with the following:

• Prior teaching experience or experience working with children (or experience in an early child hood setting)
• Proficiency in playing the piano
• A clear voice, with the ability to sing in tune
• A qualification in either music, teaching or education is advantageous as are Trinity / ABRSM grade certificates or qualifications
• Knowledge of music theory & the capability to read music
• A warm, friendly persona with the ability to relate well to children & parents.
• Demonstrated organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.
• Effective judgement skills and maturity
• Be able to work either after school, weekends or weekday mornings

As the position involves delivering classes from our specialist curriculum, our new group music teacher will be required to attend initial paid training sessions, held at our Barrington Shopping Centre studios by arrangement, and will then be supported throughout their first term of teaching.

Tertiary music students or itinerant music teachers, tertiary students with musical experience, bachelor of education students, early childhood teachers & nannies with musical knowledge are invited to apply.
