Casual position covering staff leave and illness working across morning, afternoon and night shifts

The Older Persons' Mental Health Admission Unit provides psychiatric and geriatric care for the older members of our community.

We aspire to provide high quality inpatient care to patients with acute mental health needs and/ or complex age related health conditions. We work in partnership with our patients, their families, the clinical team and community carers and supports to achieve the best possible health outcome for the patient.

As a Health Care Assistant your role is to work with the team to provide basic nursing care under the supervision and direction of Registered Nurses. This can include working with challenging behaviours.

We are seeking applicants with excellent communication skills, who have experience in older person's health care, an affinity with the elderly and the ability to get on with a wide variety of people. It is equally important that you are able to work in a flexible and methodical manner, demonstrate honesty and reliability and use appropriate initiative.

Please note: there are no fixed hours associated with this casual positon as you will be covering staffing shortfalls. However, some forward planning and scheduling will be available when covering planned leave.

Required qualifications include:

Essential

Year 11 NCEA level 1 English (or equivalent)
Year 11 NCEA level 1 Maths (or equivalent)
NZQA level 3 qualification (or equivalent)*


Desirable

Home Carer Certificate (or equivalent)


Mandatory

*NZQA Level 3: New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing - Health Assistance Strand, if not previously obtained, to be commenced once orientations have been attended.

Experience within the older persons' health sector is required.
