Whaioro Trusts counselling service provides education and support to rangatahi (youth), aged 10 – 17 years, using or affected by alcohol and other drugs, and their whanau. The Alternative Education (AE) programme is a specialised service for students aged 13 to 16 years. The program provides a safe place to study and an appropriate curriculum for each student.
We currently have a vacancy in the Rangatahi Services team (Rangatahi AoD and Alternative Education Support), providing AoD counselling services, supporting the Kaiako in providing the Alternative Education Programme. The successful applicant will be skilled in supporting rangatahi gain the confidence to transition back to school or alternatively to other training opportunities and employment, whilst providing counselling and education around alcohol and other drug use.
The ideal applicant for this position will possess or be able to fulfil the following criteria:
• Qualification and experience in the field of AoD counselling (Level 4 and above)
• DAAPANZ registration an advantage
• Current full drivers license
• Current First Aid Certificate (this will be a requirement within 3 months of commencing this position)
• Ability to apply the principles of Te Tiriti O Waitangi
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to build strong positive working relationships at all levels
• A high level of initiative, self-management and accountability
• Experience in managing challenging behaviour
• Experience at managing rangatahi with CEP (Co-Existing Problems)
• Experience in group facilitation and education
