Arohiwi is a prestigious, high performing and well-resourced breeding and finishing operation in Puketitiri, Hawke’s Bay, 45 minutes west of Hastings. With the exciting new purchase of a neighbouring property, we now currently farm 1478 hectares of easy to medium hill country.

Arohiwi is a charitable trust owned by Presbyterian Support East Coast and provides an annual dividend which is used to support PSEC services within the community.

The Station runs approx. 7000 pure bred Romney ewes and 400 Angus breeding cows. Depending on the season we finish 90 % of all our progeny. We are looking to appoint two roles due to the expansion of the farming operation and the current experienced Shepherd moving onto a Farm Managers role:

Senior Shepherd
Shepherd General

Senior Shepherd

As the Senior Shepherd, you will work closely with the Station Manager, where you will undertake day to day running of the Farm as required. Along with relevant farming experience and a passion for the industry, the successful applicant will come with excellent references and possess the following skills and attributes:

An excellent level of Stockmanship
At least 2 years of practical farming experience with a capable team of dogs
A good understanding of modern pasture management and animal health and husbandry
Attention to detail/tidiness
A passion and enthusiasm towards the industry with a good sense of humour
Good communication skills with the ability to work alone and in a team
An understanding and commitment to Health and Safety

Shepherd General

This role will support the Senior Shepherd and Station Manager, at times working autonomously. The successful applicant will come with excellent references and possess the following skills and attributes:

High level of stockmanship
Practical farming experience and a small team of capable working dogs
Attention to detail/tidiness
A passion and enthusiasm for the industry with a good sense of humour
Good communication skills with the ability to work alone and in a team
An understanding and commitment to health and safety
General farm hand duties including repairs and maintenance
