We are a family-owned and operated farming operation that comprises of a 15000 su sheep and beef property at Slopedown, A 300 ha Sheep and Beef store/fattening block at Clydevale, also a 700 cow dairy farm that is operated by a sharemilker (Hejlea Dairies) and a 220 ha runoff at Hillend.
Opawa Farm Ltd is looking for a Tractor Driver/Shepherd/General Hand in short, a Farmer to join our team to work across two parts of the business with the owner with all parts of the sheep and beef fattening block and the tractor work on the Dairy farm and Dairy runoff.
The job will be roughly a 50:50 Split tractor driving to stock work so will require someone that is as happy sitting in a tractor seat as they are working with stock.
Some of the tasks that you will be required to do are:
Tractor Work
Ploughing
Cultivation
Drilling
Making Hay/Baleage
Basic Maintenance
Stock/General Hand
Shifting Stock
Drenching
Crutching
Pasture Management
Weighing
General farm maintenance/repairs
1 to 2 good working dogs would be a benefit but not essential.
The ideal candidate will be able to:
Operate at a high skill level with both the tractor driving and stock work so experience is essential.
To have a good understanding how machinery works and not she’ll be right, rip shit and bust attitude.
Work by yourself of as part of the team.
Be honest and trustworthy.
Have good time management.
Keep an accurate farm Diary.
A sense of humour and a can-do attitude is essential
