Description

Join the enthusiastic team at COMET
Drive systems change to make education and skills more effective and equitable
Enjoy a diverse and rewarding role!

Looking for a chance to use your science, networking and engagement skills to make a difference for STEM education and skills in Aotearoa?

We are looking for an innovative Project Manager to join our team!

You will support the implementation of two exciting new initiatives: WeSTEM and STEM Alliance Aotearoa, in a part-time capacity (initially 32 hours per week).

The WeSTEM programme (funded by the Ministry of Pacific Peoples) funds collaborative research projects that engage young people across west Auckland, especially Pasifika youth and communities. We support students to connect with scientists and engineers, undertake scientific research and develop solutions to questions that matter to them and their communities.

The STEM Alliance Aotearoa is an emerging community of practice for STEM-focused businesses. The Alliance aims to maximise the impact of STEM companies' CSR spending by growing effective and equitable STEM community engagement practices.

Your main responsibilities will be working with schools and Pasifika community groups in west Auckland, helping them design science research projects, connecting them with science experts, supporting the panel to assess applications, assisting the communications team to celebrate projects via stories, reporting to the funder and assisting project groups to run successfully. You will also support the STEM Manager and STEM Alliance steering group with event management and content development for STEM Alliance activities throughout the year.

You will have:

Tertiary qualification and credibility in at least one aspect of science
Ability to build and maintain task-focused connections across industry representatives, scientists, policy-makers, community organisations, schools and young people
Strong cultural competencies, including working with Māori or Pacific communities. Fluency in a Pasifika language would be an advantage.
Excellent interpersonal, networking and problem-solving skills

You will be joining the enthusiastic team at COMET Auckland, which is a Charitable Trust and a Council Controlled Organisation of Auckland Council. Our mission is to drive systems change to make education and skills more effective and equitable across Auckland.

COMET celebrates diversity in all its forms and is an equal opportunity employer.

This is a fixed-term position to December 2022, with probable extension if funding allows.
