The Department/ Division introduction

The Academic Innovation and Research (AIR) Division offers programmes of study and learning pathways that make up our educational portfolio. Comprising of six departments as well as key academic and operations teams, the division works across the institute to create teaching, learning and research solutions and support. The AIR Division is responsible for delivering programmes that are authentic, relevant, match market demand, have dynamic teaching and learning environments, and contemporary learning styles and strategies.

The Department of Business and Digital Technologies is one of the larger academic delivery units within Ara, Delivering to around 2,000 students per year. The department offers education and professional training within three main portfolios: Business (levels 5 to 7), Digital Technologies (levels 2 - 4), Digital technologies (levels 5 to 7) and a range of other entry level and professional courses.

The Operations Manager will work closely with the Head of Department and alongside department managers to ensure efficient and effective overall operational management of the department. This will include co-ordination of timetabling, events and activities, part-time staffing and management of the technician team within the department. The successful candidate will be a member of the department management teams and contribute to the implementation of strategic and operational goals, and to the co-ordination, planning, resource allocation, quality systems within the department.

A tertiary qualification at Degree level and/or relevant experience
Successful operations, management and leadership experience within a complex systems environment
Experienced working to and within budgets
Understanding of academic and operational processes in the ITP sector
The ability to both lead and contribute to the development of new initiatives
Desirable Te Reo Maori competency
Strong planning and organisational skills
Excellent people and team development, leadership, and motivational skills
