We are after an experienced bright dairy superstar that is ready to take the next step in their career as a Herd Manager and incorporate research into the day to day farming practices. To achieve this, we are offering a flexible start date, anytime from from now until 1st June 2020.

Farmers in the Southland region took the initiative to establish the Southern Dairy Development Trust (SDDT) and its fully owned registered trading company, the Southland Demonstration Farm (SDF) in 2007. The Charitable Trust Deed outlines that the purpose of the trust is for “the promotion of dairy farming in Southland and West Otago, and to assist, support and encourage existing dairy farmers and those interested in joining the dairy industry for general educational purposes”.

The Herd Manager is required to work as part of the team to assist in the implementation of the farm plan, completing all tasks for herd and farm management. It is expected that the Herd Manager will assist in activities that will mean the business can meet those targets.

The farm is 349ha and runs 4 herds of 200 Crossbred Mixed Age Cows. The contour of the land is flat and slightly undulating. We winter all cows on-farm and carry the young stock on an adjoining support block giving learning opportunities for a full dairy farm system.

The successful applicant reports to the Farm Manager and will have a working relationship
with the Farm Team, Research Team and General Manager

Computer literacy is an advantage and prior knowledge of Delpro & MINDA would be beneficial, but not essential as training will be provided.

No accommodation is provided for this role, applicant will need to reside in the local area (including Winton/Invercargill areas).

The current roster is a friendly 8 on 2 off, 8 on 3 off throughout the season.

Must be currently living in New Zealand and be a NZ citizen or Resident.

Applicant Must hold a current full drivers licence and be drug and alcohol free.
